The Vibes Are Off
I just entered a delightful writing contest for PB authors called #KidLitVibes. You spin a digital wheel and it lands on a “vibe” you’re tasked with capturing in 125 words or less.
So I spun the Wheel of Feels, ended up with CRANKY and then effortlessly captured that vibe in my first draft because that’s how I felt about getting that word, haha. But once I got that out of my system I had a blast writing this little story and I’m SO grateful for landing a word I never would have chosen on my own. Thanks for this super fun challenge, #FrenzyFriends!
The Vibes Are Off
I’ve tried snacks. A silly dance!
I’ve sang her every song.
Tried a theatric read of Goodnight, Moon! STILL, everything is wrong.
She doesn’t want a bottle.
Her diaper, well, it’s dry!
I tried offering up my piggy bank but all she does is cry.
I give up! This is hopeless!
I collapse next to my sis.
I grab her hand and we wail as one! Soon that crying sounds amiss…
Something’s changed…is she quiet?!
It’s only ME still screaming!
I look over at my red-faced sib and see that she is beaming.
She smiles and holds my hand in hers.
At last we’ve reached the end.
I tell her “I get cranky too when I really need a friend.”
